MIRI (December 7): Palliative Care Association of Miri (PCAM) received 2 units of oxygen concentrators from one of the well-established groups in Prudential Sarawak, Noble Group (ABP) in an official handover ceremony today.
The oxygen concentrators were purchased with funds raised through a donation drive organised earlier by Noble Group (ABP).
Senior agency manager Alice Voon said the donation drive was initiated when she was approached by Richard Wong, former treasurer and long-time volunteer of the association. Due to COVID-19, there was a great shortage of oxygen tanks and related equipment in several locations.
“Our clients (policy holders) helped to contribute the funds, which were successfully amassed within two weeks,” she said in a short interview before the ceremony.
“I also hope that the donation drive will serve as a reminder to give back to society, in addition to instilling compassion and care especially amongst the younger members in our team,” she added.
“The oxygen concentrators arrived just right in time for Christmas, and Christmas is always a time to give.”
In the past, Noble Group (ABP) gave their support through sponsoring and participating in events such as PCAM’s annual charity run, Run for Love. The run had not been organised in the past two years due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Also present at the handover ceremony were PCAM President, Dr. Loh Yunn Hua, the executive committee, and team members of Noble Group (ABP).
PCAM is a non-profit organisation registered in 2008 to provide free palliative care services to terminally ill patients and their family members. The association relies on donations and support in order to cover annual operating expenses.
